The New Paradigm of Diabetology- early risk detection and prevetion

Training Programs for Early Risk Detection and Prevention

Medicine evolves continuously. Throughout history, major advances have occurred whenever physicians learned to recognize disease earlier, understand its biological progression more deeply and intervene before irreversible damage developed.

Diabetology is now entering a similar stage of evolution. For decades, modern diabetology has focused on the diagnosis and management of established diabetes. This approach has transformed patient care and remains one of the greatest achievements of contemporary medicine. However, advances in metabolic science have expanded our understanding of how diabetes develops.

Today, we know that diabetes is rarely a sudden event. It is usually the culmination of a long biological process that begins years before conventional diagnostic criteria are met. During this silent period, metabolic changes may already be progressing while fasting glucose and HbA1c remain within normal limits. Recognizing this earlier phase represents one of the most important opportunities in modern diabetes care.

It invites physicians to ask not only,

"Does this patient have diabetes?"

but also,

"Is this patient progressing toward diabetes?"

That single question represents a profound shift in clinical thinking. At CPPD, we refer to this emerging perspective as Predictive Diabetology.

A New Paradigm in Diabetes Care

Traditional Diabetology has provided physicians with the knowledge and tools to diagnose, treat and manage diabetes.

Predictive Diabetology expands that perspective by focusing on the biological progression that precedes the diagnosis.

Preventive Diabetology extends it further by translating predictive assessment into individualized prevention strategies designed to preserve long-term metabolic health.

These three perspectives are not alternatives. They are complementary stages of modern diabetes care.

Traditional Diabetology

Diagnosis and management of established diabetes.

Predictive Diabetology

Identification and assessment of the biological progression toward diabetes before conventional diagnostic criteria are met.

Preventive Diabetology

Development of individualized prevention strategies aimed at delaying, interrupting or preventing progression to clinical diabetes. Together, they represent a broader, more proactive approach to metabolic medicine.

Why This Matters

Healthcare is changing. Patients are becoming more informed, more engaged and increasingly interested in preserving health rather than simply treating disease. Wellness is now increasingly an industry, but specific goals are not set in wellness medicine. Preventing diabetes and other diseases connected with it should be the number one priority in wellness medicine.

New generation patients ask about future risk.

  • They ask whether disease can be recognised earlier.

  • They seek guidance on maintaining long-term metabolic health.

  • These expectations are reshaping medical practice.

Tomorrow's physician will require more than the ability to diagnose disease.

The physician of the future will also need to understand biological progression, assess future risk and guide patients toward earlier intervention where appropriate. Predictive and Preventive Diabetology provide a structured framework for this evolving role.

Welcome to CPPD

The Center for Predictive & Preventive Diabetology (CPPD) has been established to advance education, mentorship and clinical excellence in these emerging disciplines. Our mission is to support physicians in developing a broader understanding of diabetes—one that includes prediction as well as prevention.

We believe the future of diabetology will not replace traditional practice. It will build upon it.

Through structured professional mentorship, practical clinical learning and academic collaboration, CPPD aims to prepare doctors for the next generation of diabetes care.

The CPPD Professional Learning Pathway

CPPD offers two sequential professional mentorships.

Professional Mentorship in Predictive Diabetology

An intensive two-week mentorship introducing physicians to the principles, clinical framework and practical application of Predictive Diabetology.

Participants learn how to understand biological progression, assess future diabetes risk and begin integrating Predictive Diabetology into clinical practice.

Successful participants will be able to check the initiation and progression of diabetes in detail. They can do the prevention work in their own way, or they can opt for the prevention training.

Explore Predictive Diabetology Training: 2 Weeks, 1 hour/ week, Online.

Professional Mentorship in Preventive Diabetology

An intensive two-month mentorship available exclusively to graduates of the Predictive Diabetology program.

Participants learn how to translate predictive assessment into individualized prevention strategies and develop prevention-focused approaches to long-term metabolic care.

Our Educational Philosophy

Medicine is best learned through understanding, application and mentorship.

For this reason, every CPPD program combines scientific learning with practical clinical experience.

Participants study through professionally prepared learning materials, guided assignments, supervised clinical application and personalized mentoring.

Our objective is not simply to transfer knowledge.

It is to help doctors develop confidence, clinical reasoning and a broader perspective on metabolic disease.

Do we treat Established Diabetes? No. We will advise the patient to have the best available medical treatments from a nearby physician or diabetologist. An established diabetes is a different problem than an emerging problem
